The best AI app builder for startups in 2026 depends on one question: do you want a tool that generates an app, or a service that keeps building it? If you can code and want an agent in your editor, Cursor. If you want the fastest prototype from a chat, Lovable or Bolt. If you want one cloud workspace to build and host, Replit. If you are a product team on Vercel, v0. For an internal tool, Base44; for a chat-built mobile app, Emergent. If you want a product built, reviewed, deployed and maintained by agents with billing included, Orkosi. The sections below give each tool an honest paragraph, a sourced price table and a verdict.

Eight tools, three kinds of thing: chat generators, a code editor with agents, and a platform that runs the product.

How we compared the eight tools

Every claim below comes from the public comparison grids we maintain on the comparison hub, checked on 2026-10-08 against each vendor's pricing page and documentation. The grids score the same eleven rows for every tool, from writing code from a brief to team collaboration; the four rows that separate the tools are drawn out below.

Prices are the public figures in each vendor's page text. Where a vendor lists only annual-billed figures or hides a plan behind a sales call, we say so. Orkosi's prices are on its own pricing page and are not quoted here.

The eight tools, one honest section each

Lovable

Lovable is an AI web app generator: a chat produces the app, an editor preview shows it, and a published snapshot goes live. The code syncs two ways to your own GitHub repository on every plan, a database is included through Lovable Cloud, and built-in payments and a custom domain come with paid plans. There is no task loop after launch, no test or review gate, and the environments row is partial (editor preview plus snapshot). $0 for the Free plan, with 5 build credits a day; from $25/month for the Pro plan, with a monthly allowance of 100 credits (vendor docs, checked 2026-10-08). Full comparison: Orkosi vs Lovable.

Bolt

Bolt (bolt.new) is an AI website and app builder with the most plumbing wired from one chat: a built-in database, a Stripe integration and a GitHub integration are all full ticks, and it generates Expo projects. The gaps are the same as Lovable's: no task loop, no review gate, and a partial environments row (editor project plus published site). $0 for the Free plan, with 1M tokens a month and Bolt branding; $25/month for the Pro plan, with 10M tokens (vendor page, checked 2026-10-08). Full comparison: Orkosi vs Bolt.

Replit

Replit is a cloud development environment with an agent, hosting and managed PostgreSQL. It has real development and production databases, agent browser testing (usage-charged, no gate, so partial), a GitHub source control connection (partial), and Expo with guided TestFlight for mobile. It expects you to open the editor. $20/month for the Core plan, or $18 billed annually; $100/month for the Pro plan; a free Starter tier is named in the docs rather than on the pricing page (vendor page, checked 2026-10-08). Full comparison: Orkosi vs Replit.

v0

v0 is Vercel's generative UI builder. It produces Next.js interfaces and apps, syncs to GitHub on the Free plan, and deploys to Vercel with branch previews and production, so environments are a full tick and GitHub checks and PR review apply (partial on the gate row). There is no database included (via integrations), no billing, no blog or brand kit, and no mobile. $0 for the Free plan, with a daily message limit; $30 per user a month for the Plus plan; $100 per user a month for the Business plan, prices excluding VAT and GST (vendor docs, checked 2026-10-08).

Base44

Base44 is an AI app builder with the backend handled: auth, a database and hosting are included, multi-user editing is on every plan, and a custom domain comes with Starter and above. GitHub sync arrives on Builder and above (partial), Stripe is connectable from the chat (partial), and the environments row is a "No": apps run on production infrastructure. Message credits are spent per request, so there is no task loop. Only annual-billed prices are public: $0 for the Free plan, with 25 message credits; $16/month billed annually for the Starter plan, the lowest paid tier, and $40/month billed annually for the Builder plan (vendor page, checked 2026-10-08).

Emergent

Emergent is a conversational app builder for web and mobile with hosting. It has a full tick for mobile (an Expo mobile agent on paid plans), testing agents during a build (partial, no review gate), preview plus deployments with rollback (partial on environments), GitHub integration from Standard and Stripe checkout scaffolded on request (partial). Chat sessions can be forked but there is no task loop. $0 for the Free plan, with 10 credits; $20/month, or $17 billed annually, for the Standard plan, with a monthly allowance of 100 credits; $200/month, or $167 billed annually, for the Pro plan, with a monthly allowance of 750 credits (vendor page, checked 2026-10-08).

Cursor

Cursor is an AI code editor and coding agent for developers working in their own codebase. It writes code in your repository, cloud agents take tasks you assign (partial on the task row), and Bugbot reviews pull requests (partial on the gate row). It does not host, does not include a database or environments, and has no billing, blog or mobile; those are your stack. the Hobby plan is free with limited agent requests; $20/month for the Pro plan, which is the individual tier; $40 per user a month for the Teams plan; the Pro+ and Ultra prices are not in the page text (vendor page, checked 2026-10-08).

Orkosi

Orkosi is a platform where a team of AI agents builds, deploys and runs a software product. You describe it in plain words; agents write the code, deploy on AWS with TLS and a custom domain, and keep improving it through tasks you approve, with automated tests and a review gate before each change ships. Every product has a dev and a production environment, its own GitHub repository, a database, Stripe plans and subscriptions, a blog engine, a brand kit, email marketing and SEO tooling. Mobile is partial: Expo apps are generated and store submission is planned. There is a free plan; the prices are on the pricing page and the full list is on the features page.

Public entry prices, with sources

All figures are from the vendor's page text, checked 2026-10-08. "Not public" means the figure is not in the text.

Tool Free tier First paid plan Source
Lovable $0, 5 build credits a day from $25/month, Pro plan, monthly allowance of 100 credits Lovable docs
Bolt $0, 1M tokens a month, Bolt branding $25/month, Pro plan, 10M tokens bolt.new/pricing
Replit $0, Starter tier named in the docs $20/month, or $18 billed annually, Core plan replit.com/pricing
v0 $0, daily message limit $30 per user a month, Plus plan v0 docs
Base44 $0, 25 message credits $16/month billed annually, Starter plan base44.com/pricing
Emergent $0, 10 credits $20/month, or $17 billed annually, Standard plan emergent.sh/pricing
Cursor $0, Hobby plan, limited agent requests $20/month, Pro plan cursor.com/pricing
Orkosi Free plan See the pricing page /pricing

Two cautions when reading the table. Base44's figures are annual-billed only; its monthly-billed prices are not public in the page text. Credit, token and message allowances are not comparable across vendors, so a cheaper plan with a smaller allowance can cost more for a product that changes often. Stripe's own fees apply wherever payments are wired and are on the Stripe pricing page.

Four criteria that separate the best AI app builder for startups

Most of the eleven grid rows are level across the chat builders: they all write code, host, include a database and sync to GitHub on some plan. Four rows do the separating.

Compare diagram of chat app builders, Cursor and Orkosi on four criteria from the feature grids
The chat builders stop when you stop chatting. Cursor keeps working if you have a stack. Orkosi keeps working and brings the stack.

Agents keep working through tasks. Six of the eight are chat tools: a change is a prompt you write. Cursor's cloud agents take tasks you assign, which the grid rates partial because the rest of the pipeline is yours. Orkosi runs tasks on a board with a builder and a reviewer.

Tests and a review gate before a change ships. Lovable, Bolt and Base44 have none. Replit and Emergent have testing agents during a build, with no gate. v0 inherits GitHub checks and PR review; Cursor's Bugbot reviews pull requests. Orkosi runs both and blocks the deploy until they pass.

Hosting and a database included. Every chat builder hosts, and all but v0 include a database. Cursor includes neither; it is an editor. Orkosi includes both, with two environments.

Billing built in. Bolt has a Stripe integration as a full tick. Lovable, Replit, Base44 and Emergent are partial (paid plans, on request, from the chat, scaffolded). v0 and Cursor have none. Orkosi ships plans, credits and subscriptions with every product.

Who each tool is best for

A founder at a fork reading three signposts pointing to a chat, a code editor and a conveyor with a gate
Three kinds of tool, three kinds of founder: the one who prompts, the one who codes, the one who supervises.
  • Lovable: individuals and small teams who want to prompt a web app into existence and own the code.
  • Bolt: individuals building websites, stores and dashboards from one chat interface.
  • Replit: builders who want an all-in-one cloud workspace to build, test and host apps with an agent.
  • v0: product and engineering teams on Vercel who want to prototype UI and ship it through their GitHub workflow.
  • Base44: non-developers who want an internal tool or simple app with auth, data and hosting handled.
  • Emergent: solo builders who want to describe a web or mobile app in chat and have it built and hosted in one place.
  • Cursor: professional developers and engineering teams who own a codebase and want an agentic editor plus PR review.
  • Orkosi: founders without an engineering team who want a product built, deployed and run for them, with the business layer included.

How to choose the best AI app builder for startups

Start with the person, not the tool. A startup with a developer gets more from Cursor than from any chat builder, because the developer already has the stack the chat builders bundle. A startup without one needs the bundle, and the question becomes how much of the running the tool does after launch.

Then ask three questions in order. Does the code live in a repository you own? All eight pass this in some form, with Replit and Base44 partial on plan or connection. Is there a gate before production? Only Orkosi has a full tick; v0 and Cursor get there through GitHub if you set it up. Who makes the next hundred changes? On six of the eight, you do, in a chat. On Cursor, your developer does, with agents helping. On Orkosi, agents do, from tasks you write.

For a founder who wants to validate an idea this week, a chat builder on its free tier is the right first step, and the guide to building a SaaS without writing code walks through what to validate. For a founder who has validated and now needs a product that runs, the comparison that matters is the pipeline after launch, and the docs show how an Orkosi build starts.

FAQ

Which is the cheapest AI app builder to start with?

All eight have a free tier, including Orkosi's free plan. The lowest first paid plan in the page text is $16/month billed annually for Base44's Starter plan. Replit's Core plan, Cursor's Pro plan and Emergent's Standard plan each cost $20/month (vendor pages, checked 2026-10-08). Allowances differ, so the cheapest plan is not always the cheapest product.

Do I own the code on all of them?

In some form, yes. Lovable, Bolt, v0, Emergent and Cursor put the code in your GitHub repository; Replit offers a GitHub connection and Base44 syncs on Builder and above, both rated partial. Orkosi creates a GitHub repository for every product. Check which plan the sync arrives on before you build.

Which builders include billing?

Bolt has a Stripe integration as a full tick. Lovable (paid plans), Replit (on request), Base44 (from the chat) and Emergent (scaffolded on request) are partial. v0 and Cursor leave billing to your stack. Orkosi ships plans, credits and subscriptions with every product.

Which is best for a mobile app?

Emergent has a full tick for mobile with an Expo mobile agent on paid plans, and Replit lists Expo with guided TestFlight. Bolt generates Expo projects and Orkosi generates Expo apps with store submission planned. Lovable, v0, Base44 and Cursor do not build mobile apps.
